Field Trips

The Sociology and Anthropology Department at Wheaton College takes full advantage of its proximity to Chicago by scheduling numerous class field trips.  Students have visited various religious centers, juvenile courts and detention centers, The Field Museum of Natural History, Statesville Correctional Center and Cook County Jail, a variety of inner-city schools, the Marian Joy Rehab Center, and several urban youth programs, to name a few.  Some of the students’ favorite fieldtrips have been to B’nai Maccabim (a Messianic Synagogue), the Rainbow PUSH Coalition (Jesse Jackson’s progressive organization for social change), St. Sabina Roman Catholic Church (a large congregation uniquely blending African-American style worship with Catholic liturgy) and the Institute of Islamic Information and Education.
