Army ROTC offers dozens of merit scholarships to qualified
students each school year.
Types of Scholarships
Traditional Four Year
Three and Two Year on-Campus
Three and Two Year Green to Gold (only
for active duty enlisted soldiers completing a bachelors degree)
Three and Two Year Guaranteed
Reserve Forces Duty (Cadet
is guaranteed reserve duty upon commissioning)
Two Year Leader’s Training
Course (LTC) for those who attend LTC.
Scholarship Benefits
All levels of scholarship pay full tuition, fees and $900 per year for books. All
scholarship Cadets receive an annual stipend; freshman get $2400; sophomores, $2800; juniors, $3600; seniors, $4000.
Considerations
for Scholarships
Academics: To be competitive for 4 year scholarship, high school GPA
should be above 3.0 and SAT/ACT scores should be 1100/24 or higher. For
the on campus scholarships, college cumulative GPA must be 2.5 or
higher, and the 3 year applicant must have completed 27 credit hours by
the end of the school year; the 2 year applicant must have completed 54
credit hours by the end of the school year.
Extracurricular activities: Involved in sports, clubs, church, work,
etc.
Professor of Military Science interview. Must also pass a medical exam
at no cost to the applicant.
Requirements
in ROTC
2 credit hour class as a freshman/sophomore l 1/2 HR leadership lab
every Thursday Physical training 2 mornings a week for 1 hour and 15
minutes (can be excused if on an intercollegiate sports team) Comes to
about 6 hours per week involved with ROTC Also one weekend field
training exercise (FTX) and one formal event per semester After junior
year, all cadets attend a five-week camp at Ft. Lewis, WA.
Obligations
Freshman and sophomore students who are not on scholarship can enroll
without service obligation. Non-scholarship students who are qualified
can compete on campus for 2, 3, and 4 year scholarships and will incur
a military obligation when they begin to receive benefits. Scholarship
students must sign a contract before they begin to receive benefits. At
the start of senior year, you request to serve in one of three ways. Your
performance and the needs of the Army will determine which one you
receive:
Option 1 - 4 years active duty then 4 years in individual ready reserve
(or all eight in the active Army).
Option 2 - serve 8 years in the reserves (train 1 weekend/month, 2 weeks
/summer). Option 3 - request educational delay to pursue an advanced
degree (such as MD, Lawyer, etc.)
