2007 Parents Orientation — August 23-25, 2007

Welcome to the Wheaton College family! We're looking forward to meeting you at Orientation this summer.

Registration
Parents do not need to register in advance for Orientation, but we do ask that you check in and pick up an information packet. When you arrive on campus, move your son or daughter into the residence hall, and then proceed to the Orientation Welcome Center, located in the Phelps Room in lower level of the Beamer Student Center. Parents Council and staff members will be there to greet you and offer an information packet including an Orientation schedule, a campus map, restaurant and shopping guide, name tags, and much more.

When you visit the Welcome Center, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Confirm that we have the correct contact information on file for you.
  • Give us your e-mail address(es) if you’d like to receive the parent e-newsletter, e-Partnerships and be placed on our emergency contact list.

Schedule
Throughout Orientation Weekend, the College offers all kinds of programming—events for students and parents to attend together, some just for parents, and some just for students. New Wheaton parents will receive a detailed schedule and a copy of the 2007-2008 Parents Handbook in the mail in early August. A finalized schedule will be given to students and parents at Orientation.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a fee for Orientation?
There is no fee for Parents Orientation.

What about meals?
You can purchase meal tickets at Anderson Commons or help yourself to the food fare offered in the Beamer Student Center. The only meal tickets that can’t be purchased from Anderson Commons are the Parents Dinner tickets (Friday, August 24). The Parents Dinner is a catered meal, sponsored by the Parents Council. Purchase tickets for this meal at the Parents Welcome Center. If you prefer to go off campus for your meals, a Wheaton Vicinity Restaurant & Shopping Guide is provided in the information packet you will receive at the Welcome Center.

How do we get to campus, and what accommodations are available?
Click here for a listing of accommodations, directions to campus, and a campus map.

When I arrive on campus, where can I park?
Campus visitors are encouraged to park where there are “W” or “Visitor Parking” signs. Refer to your Parents Handbook or a campus map (given at the Welcome Center).

Should siblings come to Orientation?
This is a difficult question to answer, and we leave this decision to the parents. Since Orientation programming is geared toward students, parents, and students/parents, siblings may feel out of place. Plus, siblings may feel awkward tagging along to a student mixer, or have difficulty finding a parent informational session interesting. We do encourage siblings to visit during Family Weekend (November 2-3, 2007).

Will I have an opportunity to connect other parents from my state?
Yes. Your Orientation name badge will indicate the city/state that you are from. As you encounter other parents from your state, we hope you’ll take a moment to introduce yourself and get acquainted. Thursday evening’s Dessert Social is focused on connecting with Wheaton parents in your region.

If you have additional questions about Parents Orientation, please contact Danielle Kessler, Parent Relations Director, at 630-752-5712 or by e-mail at parents.program@wheaton.edu.
