Decemberists come to Wheaton

As a prologue to their upcoming “Always the Bridesmaid” tour, The Decemberists will stop by the Wheaton College campus to perform a concert Friday, October 31.

Lead singer and songwriter Colin Meloy originated the rock band in Portland, Oregon back in 2000. The band is best known for introspective lyrics, use of unusual instruments (including the accordion and melodica) and songs ranging in style from upbeat pop to instrumental ballads.

The band's name refers to the Decembrist revolt, an 1825 event Meloy views as an attempted communist revolt over the Imperial Russian succession. He added an “e” to the revolt’s title and named his band the Decemberists.

The 7:30 p.m. performance takes place in Edman Memorial Chapel, located on the northeast corner of Washington and Franklin streets in Wheaton (campus map). $30 general admission tickets are available online at www.brownpapertickets.com and in the Wheaton College bookstore. Tickets are $35 at the door. Doors open at 7 p.m. For more information, call the College Union concert hotline at 630.752.5390.
