Flamenco Dancer José Porcel and Company Comes to Wheaton

The Artist Series at Wheaton College is pleased to present Compañia Flamenco with José Porcel in a performance 8 p.m. Saturday, October 11.

Enjoy an evening of fiery footwork, colorful costumes, and moving musicianship as Porcel and his dancers perform traditional flamenco. The Compañia Flamenco Jose Porcel was founded in Madrid, Spain and is among the premier dance troupes that exhibits this exciting art form. The Company brings this tradition to life vibrantly and colorfully with live musicians, vocalists and of course dancers and has delighted audiences around the world for many years.

This event will be held in Edman Memorial Chapel, located on the northeast corner of Washington and Franklin streets in Wheaton (campus map). Ticket prices range from $31–$48 for general admission. Discounts are available for students, seniors (60+) and groups of 20 or more. For more information, or to order tickets, call the Ticket and Information Office at 630.752.5010. A presentation of cheerful movements that require great coordination. A festive dance.

“Soledad” (seguirilla)
Jose Porcel

One of the strong dances within the flamenco range, expressing great inner feeling.

“Fuerzas” (Farruca)
Bailaores
Three different personalities. Three different styles. Three different dancers with different energies to create a single line of expression.

“Vivencias” (Solea)
All the company
Coordination and the expression of unity in the expansion of one of the intermediate themes of flamenco. Complex choreographic movements.

“Union”  (Taranto)
Leading bailaora and Jose Porcel
The leading bailaora of the company and Jose Porcel express their emotions through movement.

“Mujeres” (Rondena)
Bailaoras
A flamenco dance in which the bailaoras of the company perform light, rounded movements wherein the dresses with long trains are the protagonists. The castanets are used as a rhythmic accompaniment adding color and harmony to the piece.

“A mi manera” (Alegrias)
Jose Porcel
A solo in which Jose Porcel is moved by his state of spirit, improvising throughout a large section of the piece with the intention of reaching a connection with the public.

“Fiesta flamenco”
All the company
