September 20-21, 2007
“Poetry,” the 52nd Annual Writing and Literature Conference at Wheaton College, will be held September 20-21.
Speakers include:
- Dr. Mary Brown, professor of literature and writing at Indiana Wesleyan University and editor for The Steinbeck Review
- Dr. Susanna Childress, author of Jugged with Love and 2005 Brittingham Poetry Prize winner
- Carl Dennis, author of ten books of poetry including Unknown Friends, New and Selection Poems 1974-2004, and the 2002 Pulitzer Prize winning Practical Gods
- Robert Siegel, author of nine books of poetry and fiction, including A Pentecost of Finches: New & Selected Poems, and The Waters Under the Earth
- Dr. Jill Pelaez Baumgaertner, Dean of Humanities and Theological Studies at Wheaton College and author of Finding Cuba, Leaving Eden, and Namings
- Dr. Brett Foster, Assistant Professor of English and translator of Giovanni Pascoli’s poetry in Poems Bewitched and Haunted
- David Wright, Visiting Assistant Professor of English and author of A Liturgy for Stones and Five poems. A Capella: Mennonite Voices in Poetry.
Sessions begin 2 pm Thursday, September 20 and conclude with a 6 pm banquet on Friday, September 21. The lectures will be held in the East Wing of Edman Memorial Chapel, in the Kresge/Wurdack rooms and the banquet will take place in the Todd M. Beamer Student Center on campus.
The cost for the conference sessions including the banquet is $25, or $21 for students. The deadline for reservations is Tuesday, September 17.
