Wheaton Students Invite Public to Obsession

Obsession: Radical Islam’s War Against the West, an award-winning documentary on radical Islam, will be shown at Wheaton College at 7 p.m. Tuesday, November 13. Following the show, Dr. John Monson, who holds a PhD from Harvard University’s Department of Near East Languages and Civilizations, will lead a discussion on radical Islam. The event is sponsored by student groups Tikvat Israel (The Hope of Israel) Club and Wheaton College Republicans.

Obsession provides the facts and historical perspectives needed to understand the extent and magnitude of the global conflict with radical Islam. Using footage from Arabic television rarely seen in the West, Obsession offers an insider’s view of radical Islam. The documentary features interviews with Sir Martin Gilbert, Alan Dershowitz, Daniel Pipes, Steve Emerson, a former Hitler Youth Commander, a former Federal Prosecutor, as well as anti-Islamist Muslims, including the daughter of a terrorist, a former Palestinian terrorist, a Palestinian journalist, and the director of the Palestinian Media Watch.

Those who have already seen Obsession believe it is critical viewing. Glenn Beck of CNN Headline News, says “I believe this is the most important movie of our lifetime." Major General Paul Vallely declared, “This needs to be seen by everybody in America and in Europe." And Joel Surnow, Executive Producer of 24, said “Obsession is both scary and riveting! Each and every one of us should feel obligated to show Obsession to as many people as we can.”

Dr. John Monson spent most of his life in Jerusalem, where his family moved in 1968. He speaks Hebrew and Arabic, and has travelled widely throughout the Middle East. He completed his MA at the American Institute of Holy Land Studies in Jerusalem, and is currently the associate professor of archaeology at Wheaton. His teaching and scholarly work focuses upon the geography, languages, history, and cultures of the ancient Near East.

Free and open to the public, this event takes place on the campus of Wheaton College in Coray Auditorium, located at 421 North Chase Street in Wheaton (campus map). For more information about the program, contact the moderator, Ari Hyde, at 630.456.5766. To learn more about the film, visit www.obsessionthemovie.com.
