“The Middle Bronze Age at Ashkelon,” a lecture by Archaeologist and Harvard professor Lawrence E. Stager, will be held at Wheaton College Tuesday, October 16, at 6:30 pm.
This lecture is part of the 52nd Wheaton College Archaeology Lecture Series “Ashkelon and the Ports of the Mediterranean,” exploring the results of more than two decades of excavation at the site.
Educated at Harvard, Dr. Stager holds BA, MA, and PhD degrees from the university. For the past 30 years he has directed land excavations at Idalion (Cyprus), Carthage (Tunisia), and Ashkelon (Israel). From 1985 until present, Professor Stager has been director of the Leon Levy Expedition to Ashkelon. He currently serves as the Dorot Professor of the Archaeology of Israel in the department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations and in Anthropology at Harvard. He is the director of the Harvard Semitic Museum and general editor of its publications. His archaeological research and writing focus on ancient Mediterranean cultures of Canaanites, Phoenicians, Philistines, and Israelites.
