Former Senator Dan Coats joins former Congressman Victor Fazio, Jr. in a bi-partisan conversation titled “Christian Moral Engagement in Politics,” from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, October 11. Michael Gerson, former speech writer for President George W. Bush, will moderate the event. This event is sponsored by the Center for Applied Christian Ethics (CACE) at Wheaton College.
Michael Gerson is a 1986 Wheaton College graduate. He is the former Chief Speechwriter and Senior Policy Adviser to President Bush, author of the book Heroic Conservatism, an op-ed columnist for The Washington Post,and senior fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations.
Senator Dan Coats served as a member of Congress from 1981-1999, representing Indiana as a member of the Republican Party. Senator Coats served as United States Ambassador to Germany from 2001-2005. He is a 1965 Wheaton alumnus, and received an honorary doctorate in 1992.
Congressman Victor Fazio, Jr. served in Congress from 1979-1999 as a Democrat from the state of California. He graduated from Union College in 1965. He currently works in the Washington office of Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP, and sits on the board of Northrop Grumman.
