The Wheaton College Symphony Orchestra performs in concert Saturday, October 6, at 8 pm. The 80-member orchestra is conducted by Daniel Sommerville. The guest soloist will be harpist and Conservatory of Music faculty member Faye Seeman.
Seeman will perform a concerto written for her by Gustavo Leone, titled Como un Sueno, which translates to “Like a Dream.” This colorful and rhythmic piece was commissioned in memory of Seeman’s late father, orchestra conductor Ernest Seeman.
Faye Seeman is principal harpist of the Chicago Sinfonietta and the Joffrey Ballet. She is one of the most versatile and sought-after harpist in Chicago and the Midwest, as soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral harpist. Ms. Seeman is on the faculty of the Wheaton Conservatory of Music.
Additionally, the Symphony Orchestra will perform Mozart’s Impressario Overture, Britten’s Peter Grimes: Four Sea Interludes, Hovhaness’ Prayer of St. Gregory and Schumann’s Symphony No. 4 in D minor.
The concert will be in Edman Memorial Chapel, located at the northeast corner of Washington and Franklin streets in Wheaton. Tickets cost $6 for general admission and $4 for students and seniors over 60. Tickets may be purchased at the door, or in advance by visiting the Ticket and Information Office located at 418 North Chase Street in Wheaton.
