A special organ recital on September 11 will feature musical selections honoring the memory of the events of 9/11.
Organist Mark Edward Laubach will perform in Edman Chapel on the campus of Wheaton College on Tuesday, September 11, 2007, at 8 PM, in a program co-sponsored by Fox Valley Chapter of the American Guild of Organists and Lester Groom Foundation of Wheaton College. In addition to the 9/11 selections, Laubach will perform works by Dupre, Mendelssohn, Durufle, and Bonnet, including the monumental “Sonata on the 94th Psalm” by Julius Reubke. Laubach will play on the spectacular four-manual, 70-rank mechanical action Casavant organ in Edman Chapel.
The Chapel is located on the corner of North Washington and East Franklin in Wheaton. Admission prices at the door are $6 for general admission and $4 for seniors (60+) and students. For more information, please call 630.752.5099.
Mark Laubach is a native of Easton, Pennsylvania, graduate of Westminster Choir College and the Eastman School of Music and former Fellow in Church Music at Washington National Cathedral. Laubach is known as a brilliant recitalist with unique gifts in programming, registration, virtuosity, and expressive nuance. He has performed at Riverside Church in New York City, the Cadet Chapel at West Point Military Academy, the Crystal Cathedral in Garden Grove CA, Grace Cathedral in San Francisco, Methuen Memorial Music Hall, Westminster Abbey, St. Paul’s Cathedral in London, and King’s College Chapel in Cambridge, England. He has played and lectured for gatherings of American Guild of Organists and Association of Anglican Musicians.
Laubach has recorded three albums, Teutonic Titanics, Frenchfest, and Mosaics in Sound for the Pro Organo label. Since January 1986, he has served as Minister of Music at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. Laubach is an Adjunct Instructor of Organ and Church Music at Marywood University in Scranton, PA.
