The Billy Graham Center Museum at Wheaton College is displaying a new temporary exhibit May 29, 2008 through August 10, 2008, titled “Cross/Purpose.”
The exhibit is from the collection of Edward and Diane Knippers, provided in conjunction with Christians in the Visual Arts. Cross/Purpose features a large sampling of the various ways in which the cross has been displayed in art over the centuries. This exhibit includes works ranging from a sixth-century AD coin to works by contemporary artists, such as Sandra Bowden and Rudolph Bostic. Freestanding crosses used in religious ceremonies in places as varied as Ethiopia, France and Guatemala are also on display.
The museum is open 9:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1 pm. – 5 pm. Sunday. There is a suggested donation of $4 for general admission, $3 for students and seniors, $1 for children and $10 for a family pass.
