NEW! Online Tutorial for setting up calculated columns in Blackboard Grade Book at this link!

The Course and Media Development Division of Media Resources would like to do all we can to support you in your use of Blackboard at Wheaton.

Blackboard is one of the most exciting developments for teaching and learning at Wheaton for a long time. This new software brings us a truckload of power and flexibility to faculty who can use as many or few of its tools as they wish, according to their instructional goals, to supplement the classroom experience.

Students will like Blackboard's 24x7 integration of class communications and course materials into one login. They will also like the "Who's online?" feature and other built-in tools which will encourage collaboration in their learning.

Students, click here for Flash tutorials on the new WebCT-Blackboard.

Faculty, click here for Flash tutorials and here to see additional resources.

Blackboard can be accessed at: http://my.wheaton.edu.  Use your regular Wheaton College login. Then look for the Blackboard button at the top-right. Selecting this button takes you to your MyBlackboard Page and you'll see the links to go into your courses. If you don't have the Blackboard button contact Computer Support at x5217.

Support for getting into your Blackboard course, browser, Java, or password issues is through Computer Support at x5217. Support for functionality within your Blackbaord course is provided by Media Resources at x5061.

Two Workshops are now offered in Blackboard, Basic Blackboard Design and Advanced Grade Book functions. We will shortly have another on setting up Online Testing. These are held upon request with a minimum of two registrations per workshop. We offer this training to any faculty or teaching assistants who need this for their work at Wheaton. If you are interested, please contact Jean Bultema at x5061.

Before logging into Blackboard...

When you get to the MyBlackboard page, you'll see a "Check Browser" link. Please select this and see that your browser, Flash, and Javascript are OK with Blackboard. You must allow pop-ups for Blackboard, so be sure to disable any pop-up blocker which may be in your browser's tools or a third party add-on, such as the Google toolbar. Pop-ups must be allowed.

Java plug-in: Java must be installed and working on your Windows or Macintosh computer. Either version 1.4x (or 4), 1.5x (or 5), or 1.6x (or 6) will work fine.

Firefox 3 on both Windows and Macintosh has problems in Blackboard, and it is not recommended.

Blackboard on a Mac: Since Blackboard is a browser-based program, its operation on the Mac or PC is almost identical. On the Macintosh you must use OS 10.3 or 10.4; OS 10.5 will likely work OK, but is too new to have been certified. Safarai works well, but Firefox 2.x on the Mac is not officially supported, although it may work. Please be sure you have turned-off your popup blockers, you have enabled cookies and Javascript, and have the latest version of Java working on your computer.
