Saving Files

  • The computers are set up to allow users to save files in "My Documents" and the Desktop.
  • For long-term storage, you should use "My Documents".
  • This drive will be cleaned at the end of each semester.
  • Please note that computers are not backed up, so you will be saving files on these computers at your own risk.
Laptop and Internet Usage

1. If you bring a laptop from off-campus, it can be used in the smart classroom, except that there will be no access to the Internet or the campus network. Cables for PCs are provided in most of the rooms for audio and all of the rooms for video connections from your laptop to the smart desk technology. Macintosh users will have to bring their own cables, unless their laptops can also use PC cables.

2. If you use a Wheaton College laptop, such as checked-out from our department [campus phone x5034], it can access the Internet and campus network resources when it is plugged into the network port. Login the same as with the classroom built-in computers as under "Logging In" above.

3. All computer usage policies of Wheaton College apply to classroom computers, including all laptops.

4. All of Media Resources' computers have the Internet software locked into the campus proxy server. End users cannot alter this setting.

5. Our laptop computers do have dial-up type modems built in, however, Media Resources does not configure them to work with personal Internet Service Providers for you. If you do use these modems to connect to personal accounts please, for your own security, remove the settings before returning the computer.

6. College personnel who use their own laptops in classrooms should check with computing services to be sure their laptops will be able to access the Internet and campus network in the particular room where they teach.
