514. Spiritual Formation. Presents spiritual formation
as an intentional emphasis of the church whereby we seek to
facilitate and cooperate with the work of the Spirit primarily
through cultivating a climate of discipleship, encouraging spiritual
practices that make us more open and responsive to the Spirit's
activity, and developing resources that address the varying
needs of persons at different places in their faith pilgrimage.

521. Historical Foundations.
A history of the witness of the church from apostolic times
to the present, with individual depth in areas required by
student need and interest. (2 credit hours)

531. Theological Foundations.
The dynamics of evangelical Christian theology in relation
to the worldwide witness of the Church in light of contemporary
ecumenical thinking and the development of the indigenous
church throughout the world. (2 credit hours)

532. Contextualization of Theology.
Analysis of the encounter of the gospel with culture within
the framework of the behavioral sciences and informed from
the perspective of Christian theology. Special focus on biblical
and historical perspectives on Christ and culture; the gospel
in a non-Christian setting; the church; methods of hermeneutics
and translation; and historical and contemporary examples
of contextualization. (4 credit hours)

561. Intercultural Communication. Foundational
principles of intercultural communication from the fields
of social psychology, cultural anthropology, and communication
theory integrated with selected areas of personal encounter
in cross-cultural settings. (4 credit hours)

572. Cross-Cultural Research.
The rationale and methodology of qualitative research
in cross-cultural contexts. Special focus on the application
of qualitative methods to a specific context through research
projects. (4 credit hours)

621. Principles of Development.
An examination of basic principles of development through
a survey of the literature and case studies from the field.
Theory of development is integrated with implications
for practice.(2

691. Intercultural Studies Forum.
Integration of missiology with other academic disciplines,
with the student's personal growth, and with field ministries.
Graded pass/fail. (0 credit hours)

692. Comprehensive Exam. Prerequisite: Submission
of Candidacy form. Fee: $120. Graded pass/fail. (0 credit
hours)
BITH 565,
566, or 576:. Students have three options for fulfilling
their Biblical and Theological Studies Requirement: BITH 576
History of Christianity to 1900, BITH 565 Christian Theology,
or BITH 566 Biblical Interpretation. BITH 564 Principles of
Biblical Interpretation is also an option for those with a
background in NT Greek. Each class is four credits, and normally
two of the courses are offered every semester. There is also
the option of taking the BITH course in an intensive format
during the summer (see
syllabi for the summer versions).
