Foundations of Intercultural Communication Course Information
Course Description: "Principles of intercultural
communication, social psychology, and cultural anthropology
as they relate to contact with
those of other cultures and the introduction of change."

skilled in theory and practice culturally-relevant
service in a dynamically changing world.
TESOL
Mission Statement: Our mission is to develop specialists
in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages who demonstrate
a high level of professionalism as the foundation for cross-cultural
ministry. Our model of professionalism is a synthesis of three
general areas: educator, specialist, and servant of the kingdom.

outcomes for the course in relation to the mission statement:
By the end of this course, the student will have developed
as an effective cross-cultural professional in these areas:

Educator
1)
Ability to create a learner-centered, culturally-sensitive
classroom;
b)
Specialist
1)
Detailed knowledge of categories for describing cultures;
c)
Servant
1)
Strong communication skills for relational ministry;
2) Know how to work together with a team in intercultural
situations.
Cheating
and plagiarism: Cheating (the presentation
of someone else's work which the student ought to have done personally)
or plagiarism
(the use of ideas and information from a specific source without
giving credit in some manner to the source) will result in the
disqualification (including a grade of 0) of the unit of the course
affected by it.
Late
assignments: Except for illness, unless arrangements are made
with the professor in advance or there are some type of extenuating
circumstances which could not have been foreseen, all late assignments
will automatically be reduced in grade by 10%.
Office
hours: I keep no formal office hours during the summer.
