Wheaton College requires the following students have health insurance benefits comparable to the Wheaton College Student Health Plan:

  • Degree-seeking students regardless of the number of credit hours for which they are registered.

  • Spouses and children of international students residing in the United States with the student.

  • Students on Deferred Enrollment (Consortium, HNGR, Internship).

  • Psy-D students registered for classes on campus. Off-campus students are not required to meet the health insurance requirements but have the option of enrolling in the plan.

  • MPPM students registered for credit hours during their semester on campus.

  • ELIC students on campus registered for credit hours.

  • Consortium students from other colleges.

  • Honey Rock students registered for credit hours.

  • Special (non-degree seeking) students registered for 9 or more credit hours.

Students Insured with Other Health Insurance Plans

  • Please check with your insurance company before making a determination to waive coverage.

  • Students insured by another health insurance plan that meets the Wheaton College requirements must complete and submit an online waiver if they do not want to be enrolled on the Wheaton College Student Health Plan. Instructions for submitting the waiver are available at www.universityhealthplans.com and clicking on Wheaton College. The deadline for waiver submission is September 12, 2008. Subtracting the fee from your total bill cannot be a substitute for completing the waiver. Failure to complete the waiver by the deadline will result in the mandatory purchase of the College's health plan without the possibility of later waiver, refund, or cancellation.

  • Other health insurance plans must have benefits comparable to the Wheaton College Student Health Plan. Each student is required to have coverage in the Wheaton area for emergency and non-emergency illness and injury including follow-up care to emergency room treatment.
  • All health insurance plans must have a United States customer service telephone number for benefit verification. International customer service telephone numbers will not be accepted.

  • If the other health insurance coverage is an HMO plan, the primary care physician on record must be within a 4 hour radius of the Wheaton College Campus.

  • Students should carry their medical identification card with them at all times.
