Frequently Asked Questions
Is
there a charge to see a nurse?
No. A nurse visit is free. (Please note: There may be additional
costs for procedures and medications.)
Do I need an appointment?
Students do not need an appointment to see a Health Center
nurse.
An appointment is necessary to see a Health Center doctor.
How long do you keep my medical records?
The Health Center maintains all student medical records for
ten years from the time of graduation.
I
have a doctor’s appointment off campus, but I do
not have a car. What do I do?
Call the Health Center and schedule a ride with our shuttle
service! The free shuttle service is student worker generated,
and hours are subject to change. Please call (630)765-0016 before scheduling
an appointment for hours of availability.
How do I pay for services provided by the Health Center?
While many services in the Health Center are free of charge,
many also have fees. All fees incurred at the Health Center
are billed to the student’s account, and any bills
payable should be remitted to the Student Accounts office.
Can I use the Health Center if I do not have the college
insurance?
Yes. The services of the Wheaton College Health Center are
available to all students and their spouses regardless of
your insurance coverage.
Can I still use the Health Center after I have graduated?
No. Due to college liability and continuity of care, the
Health Center can only provide care for current and enrolled
students.
What do I do with a bill received in my CPO?
The bill received in your CPO is for submission to your insurance
company. The Health Center does not bill insurance companies.
I am going on a trip, and I think I need certain immunizations.
What should I do?
The Health Center has a travel clinic that provides consultations
and immunizations for only Wheaton College sponsored trips. Call the office
coordinator at 630-752-5072 to schedule an appointment. Please
note: Travel appointments can often be booked far in advance
so call as soon as you know your plans to get the best appointment
availability.
More info...
Can the Health Center write an excuse to my professor if
I was sick and did not go to class?
No. Because of our commitment to patient confidentiality,
educating students about appropriate health care, and due
to our lack of direct knowledge about illness or injuries
effectively managed by self care, the Health Center does
not provide medical excuses for students who have missed
classes, exams, or due dates for papers or projects.
Does the Health Center give chapel excuses?
Yes. Criteria for chapel excuses include being in the Health
Center for the duration of the chapel service for the purpose
of seeing a nurse or doctor. Any other variation of these
reasons must be discussed with a nurse or the office coordinator
and be pre-approved in order for the chapel skip to be excused.
Where is the Health Center located?
We are located on the first floor of the Wyngarden Building
(across from Buswell Library)
What do I need to do to remove the charge for health insurance
on my student account?
If you have other health insurance that meets the Wheaton
College requirements, an online waiver may be submitted to
reverse the charge. Please refer to the Health Insurance
section of the website for additional information.
Who do I contact about a billing or insurance question?
Contact Karen Mulder, Office Manager. 630-752-5573, or Karen.k.mulder@wheaton.edu.
