The Major In Environmental Studies
A
core curriculum of 36 hours provides a unified presentation
of environmental studies as a coherent framework of concepts,
theories, facts, skills, and values essential to all students
pursuing a vocational calling in this field. Beyond the core,
an additional 10 hours are selected in one of three curricular
tracks, biology,
geology, or social
science, for advanced training and preparation in more
specialized interests. Elective choices in any track may be modified with approval of the Environmental Studies Director and appropriate departmental faculty. All students in the Wheaton Environmental
Studies Program gain experience in research, management, and
development applications in environmental studies, acquire
skill in the use of geographic information systems (GIS) and
quantitative statistical analysis and experimental design,
perform practical environmental services, and develop a personal
self-understanding of Christian mission within their professional
identify as environmental scientists and scholars.
