Two Engineering Pathways 4-Year General Engineering or 3-2 Dual Degree

At Wheaton you have two options for studying Engineering: Spend all 4 years at Wheaton in our 4-year General Engineering program, or spend 3 years at Wheaton and 2 at an an ABET-accredited school of your choice.

4-Year General Engineering

The Liberal Arts + Engineering Advantage

Our outstanding 4-year program combines a Christian Liberal Arts education with robust, hands-on engineering coursework for the 21st century. This degree prepares you for a wide range of engineering work after graduation and/or more specialized engineering education at the graduate level as a next step.

Your engineering education at Wheaton will feature small class sizes, integration of Christian faith with engineering practice, and project-based learning with an emphasis on teamwork across all four years. These projects teach problem defining and solving; communication through reports and presentations; design, prototyping, and fabrication; and provide the real-world engineering experience that employers are seeking.

3-2 Dual Degree Engineering

Earn a B.A. in liberal arts engineering from Wheaton and a B.S. in a specific engineering field from another institution.

As you discover your engineering passion(s), you can choose a transfer school based on your specific career interests. Maybe aerospace or architectural engineering? Or perhaps biomedical or computer engineering. Your dedicated program advisor can help you figure it out!

You can apply to the engineering school of your choice -- and Wheaton has a special relationship with several ABET-accredited programs, including:

  • Illinois Institute of Technology (Illinois Tech)
  • Northern Illinois University (NIU)
  • Washington University in St. Louis (WashU)

Holistic Growth

“What I realized after visiting Wheaton was that I didn’t want my four years of college to just be about learning engineering stuff or more equations . . . but really just developing me into the person God wants me to be. Wheaton offers holistic growth in a way other schools don’t.”

– Young-Ho Moon ’15

Young-Ho Moon ’15, a dual-degree engineering student from Yanji, China, earned a bachelor of science degree from both Wheaton and the Illinois Institute of Technology. Wheaton wasn't initially on Moon's radar, though. By the time he visited campus, he'd already been accepted to a top-tier engineering school. But after an overnight stay at Wheaton, he decided the holistic growth opportunities offerd in a liberal arts-focused engineering program were exactly what he needed.

After earning his degrees, Moon began a career in project engineering.
