Dr. Laura Barwegen sees her mission as working with Wheaton
students to enhance their intellectual and spiritual development.
She is continuing her research in professional development schools
and educational psychology, while involving students in the
research process. Dr. Barwegen joined Wheaton’s faculty from
Aurora University where she was the Assistant Dean of Education
and Director of the Center for Professional Renewal. In that
role she has provided professional development for teachers
in many school districts. Previously she was the University
Coordinator of Teacher Certification at Northern Illinois University
and a 7th and 8th grade language arts teacher at a public Middle
School.
While attending graduate school, a friend shared his faith in
Christ and understanding of Scripture which led to her acceptance
of Jesus Christ as both Savior and Lord. She later married this
friend, a middle school art teacher, and they currently have
two delightful sons.
She is currently very active in her church, serving on the local board of administration as Director of Christian Education as well as leading a parenting small group.
