Computer Accounts

Everybody here - faculty, staff, student - has one or more computer accounts. This is how we manage access to computer systems and the campus network. When using campus computers, email, wired or wireless connections, faculty, staff and students have to abide by the College’s Acceptable Use Policy (AUP), available here for your review: Terms and Conditions for Computer Accounts/Usage (Acceptable Use Policy).

You will have two accounts: a Network account and an email account.

  • Your Network account provides access to log into WebCT, any of the public computers on campus in the library, the BGC lab, the dorm labs and to register your personal computer to use the campus network for both wired and wireless access.
  • Your @my.wheaton.edu email account is a lifetime Wheaton email account and address

Your accounts will be active on the first day of orientation.

  • Fall -- You can pick up your new account letter when you pick up your Student ID card
  • Spring -- Your new account letter will be distributed at your orientation sessions

After new student orientation, your network/email account information will be available at the Computing Services Support Desk, Blanchard 171.

Computer Labs

Many Wheaton students bring their own computer and connect it to the campus network using the Student Network (ResNet) connection. But even with their own network connection, most students still make use of the computer labs. Some classes use software available only in the labs. Many students use the laser printers in the labs to give their papers that extra touch. The main student computing labs are in Buswell Library and the Billy Graham Center. If you live in one of the main residence halls, you will also have access to the computer lab associated with that residence.

Click here to find detailed information about the computer labs, including locations, service hours, software, and printing capabilities.

Student Network (ResNet)

Residence halls, apartments, and houses on campus offer in-room connections to the campus network and the Internet that do not use the room's phone line. Click here for detailed information about the Student Network.

Off-Campus Residents

If you will be living off campus, you can register your computer to access the Student Network and have internet access to wired and wireless connections around campus, example, the Beamer Center and the Library. For other uses of campus computer systems such as printing, you will need to use the computer labs on campus.

Access to library resources via the Internet is available through your own ISP from off-campus using your Wheaton College network account. Click here for instructions how to connect to library resources from off-campus. Your My Wheaton email account is always accessible from off-campus at http://mail.my.wheaton.edu/.
