Subseries:
I. A. Crusade Files
Arrangement:
The files are divided into North American crusades and international crusades
and within each group are arranged chronologically by the date of the meeting.
Date
Range: 1945-2000
Volume:
3.4 cubic feet
Boxes:
1-9
Correspondents:
John Akers, Cliff Barrows, Bill Brown, Werner Burlin, Blair Carlson, F. Roy
Cattell, Irv Chambers, John Corts, Robert Ferm, Leighton Ford, Billy Graham,
Kyung Chik Han, Henry
Holley, Don Hustad, Billy Kim, Paul Little, John Pollock, David Rennie, Cliff
Richards, Maurice Rowlandson, Peter Schneider, Harvey Thomas, Evie Tornquist,
Larry Turner, John Wesley White, Bob Williams.
Notes:
These files contain Barrows’ notes for the different services of each
evangelistic campaign, indicating the music, the performers, special guests,
etc. Any file in this subseries might have copies
of the programs for each service showing the special guest speakers and musicians,
songs and music used, with a few words about them, sometimes also newsletters,
statistics, other fact sheets, press releases, and relevant clippings. The
files become more complete the more recent they are. Often the early files have
very little. The folders
for international crusades usually contain much more material than those for
North American meetings. Often the international files have correspondence,
reports on preparation and planning, etc.
This section also has folders on international conferences which the
BGEA sponsored and which Barrows helped plan and lead, especially in regard
to music. There are files for the 1966 World Congress on Evangelism (Berlin),
the 1974 International Congress on World Evangelization (Lausanne, Switzerland),
the 1983 International Conference of Itinerant Evangelists (Amsterdam), the
1986 International Conference of Itinerant Evangelists, the 1994 North American
Conference for Itinerant Evangelists (Louisville, United States), and Amsterdam
2000 conference.

Exceptional
items:
Materials
relating to the Hour
of Decision (HOD) radio program
●Folder
9-11 contains texts of sermons by several BGEA evangelists. Most seem to be
by Leighton Ford, but there are also some by Lane Adams and Roy Gustafson. It
is not clear if any are by Billy Graham. Almost all of the sermons were for
the BGEA’s HOD program and many seemed to have been prepared by Ford for
broadcast in Canada. Among the topics covered are Easter, revival, the 23rd
psalm, Christian witnessing or sharing of the Gospel, heaven, the resurrection
of Jesus Christ, Communism vs Christianity, the modern moral crisis, and the
return of Christ
●Folder
10-1 has a brochure form 1954 celebrating the four year anniversary of the HOD.
●Folder
10-2 includes a proposal from the BGEA’s publicity firm, Walter F. Bennett
and Company, for an expansion of HOD into foreign and foreign language broadcasting
around the world. Other plans for HOD broadcasts in different languages can
be found in folders 10-4 through 10-7.
Folder 10-7 contains the result of a survey of attendees at a Latin American
evangelism congress in Cali, Colombia, in 1959 about the desirability of a HOD
Spanish broadcast.
●Folder
10-3 contains Correspondence between Barrows and A. Jack Dain and William Berryman
about various radio and television possibilities in Australia. The folder also
contains Barrows’ report on his visit to Australia and New Zealand to
visit BGEA supporters in 1971.
Material relating
to World Wide Pictures (WWP)

WWP film premiere.
●Folder
10-9 has copies of the bylaws and articles of incorporation of WWP.
●Folders 10-10
and 10-11 have correspondence and reports on the use of WWP films outside of
the United States and Europe. There are letters from Charles Barrows, father
of Cliff Barrows, about possibilities for the use of film in the Philippines
●Folder 11-1
has material on the very early history of Great Commission films and the BGEA
film ministry, as well as more general correspondence about the production and
distribution of WWP films,
General
●Folder 11-2 contains correspondence about the negotiations for Johnny
Cash’s film, Gospel Road, and letters from Bill Brown to Billy
Graham about the film The Hiding Place.
●Folder 11-4 holds articles by and about Barrows that reflect his
philosophy of the use of music in evangelism, his discussion of his operation
in 1986 and his early years in evangelism, before his association with Billy
Graham. See also folders 12-10, 12-11, and 12-12.
●Folder
11-5 has a letter from Johnny Cash showing his appreciation of Barrows’
ministry to him.
●Folder
11-6 to 11-8 contain comics produced by the BGEA in the early 1950s. These were
given away at children’s meetings and on other occasions. Barrows serves
as the narrator in them of familiar Bible stories and the comics probably reflect
Barrows own presentation of these stories at evangelistic meetings.
●Folder
11-9 includes correspondence from Josip Horak and others about results from
Barrows and other BGEA staff’s visit to Yugoslavia in 1967.
●Folder
11-11contains correspondence about the planning of the 1974 Lausanne congress.

many BGEA crusades.
●Folder
12-7 contains various miscellaneous items from early in the BGEA’s history,
