Souvenir program for Word of Life’s 5th Anniversary-Youth for Christ Victory Rally, held in Madison Square Garden, September 29, 1945. Wyrtzen began holding Saturday rallies in New York City in 1941 and especially large ones were held at the Garden. They were Christian evangelistic meetings for young people, which used vigorous preaching, contemporary Christ music and testimonies by other young people and celebrities. Wyrtzen was one of the most active evangelists working in New York City in the 1940s and 50s. Youth for Christ, another nationwide evangelistic organization formed in 1945, used the Word of Life rallies as a model, and although Wyrtzen used the phrase first, his rallies were not part of Youth for Christ.
