The Archives Web site remains a primary outreach tool to share our resources with a wider audience. The site contains thousands of collection guides, documents, images, exhibits, reports and other materials. People browsing the Internet discover these and then ask the archivists for more information, or for a copy of a letter or photograph. Because of the Web, hundreds of people at a distance have very specific needs met from our collections, while people who would otherwise not have known about the Archives find its resources. Many others certainly use the site's documents, exhibits, and information without ever getting in touch with the staff. While the Manuscript Reading Room is open 41.5 hours each week, the online resources at the Archives are available 24/7. Altogether, 488,288 unique visitors made 1,106,049 visits, resulting in 5,596,803 hits on our various pages. One way of measuring the use of a Website is to the number of other sites that link to it. The staff prepared memorial pages, drawing on documents from the Archives, for Ruth Bell Graham, Rex Humbard, and Jim Kraakevik, the third director of the Billy Graham Center from 1984-1996. |
