Introduction to Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages
(TESOL)
This course is for those who are enrolled
in Second Language Acquisition and who also want to take
a course in TESOL. It covers some of the same content as INTR
611: Principles and Methods of TESOL, but it does not include
the workshops and some of the other topics listed for INTR 611.
No prior teaching experience or knowledge of linguistics is assumed.
Topics include the following:

ESL/EFL teaching methods;

teaching pronunciation, grammar, and vocabulary;

teaching listening comprehension, speaking, and reading;

curriculum development; textbook evaluation and selection;
and
-
using the Bible in ESL/EFL teaching. A number of videotaped
demonstrations will also be used.
Schedule
Monday - Friday, 8:15 - 9:05 a.m.
Credit, Certificate, Concurrent Enrollment
Noncredit only. Upon completion of the course, a certificate will
be given to each participant. (Certificates are often of value
in obtaining overseas EFL teaching positions.)
You may enroll in this course only if you are also taking Second
Language Acquisition (SLA). If you want an introductory TESOL
course and you are not taking SLA, you should take INTR
611, Principles and Methods of TESOL.
