INTR 562: Foundations of Intercultural Communication
This course will help you gain a deeper understanding
of what it means to communicate the Gospel in another culture.
This includes an increased ability to identify and accept diversity
in other cultures, empathize more effectively with persons of
different cultures, identify the principal cultural values and
world view of your own culture as well as the cultures of others,
and employ more effective intercultural communication skills.
In this course, we will seek to:

Explain the process of intercultural communication.

Present several aspects of culture which are critical in
intercultural communication, including contextuality, individualism
vs. collectivism, power distance, and gender roles.

Examine factors necessary for developing competent intercultural
communication skills.

Combine all of the above in examining selected aspects of
intercultural communication, including communicating Christ,
developing friendships, and dealing with conflict in the intercultural
setting.

Credit, Concurrent Enrollment:
Two semester hours or noncredit. This course may be taken with
any course or combination of courses offered at ICCT.
