Shawn Okpebholo’s Songs in Flight featuring Rhiannon Giddens

Pulitzer Prize-, MacArthur Genius Grant-, and Grammy Award-winning artist Rhiannon Giddens, alongside other internationally acclaimed and award-winning artists will present, award-winning composer Shawn E. Okpebholo song cycle, “Songs in Flight.” This powerful work is inspired by “Freedom on the Move,” a database comprising over 30,000 newspaper advertisements placed by North American enslavers to aid in the capture of runaway enslaved people.

Ballet 5:8, with pianists Daniel Paul Horn and Caroline Hong, presents Gospel Impressions & Golden Sessions. Gospel Impressions—Makoto Fujimura's exquisite paintings inspire Slager's newest work Gospel Impressions. Fujimura's work is layered, colorful, and nuanced.  Golden Sessions—displays the four Greek words for love with movement.
