Mrs. Akiko Oshiro Minato, M.A. '60
Mrs. Akiko Minato is president of Tokyo Woman’s Christian University and professor emerita
of early church history and women’s studies at Tokyo Christian University, which was
founded by Dr. Donald Hoke ’41. After completing her M.A. in New Testament at the Wheaton
College Graduate School on a Fulbright scholarship, she attended Harvard Divinity School.
She later continued her research as a visiting scholar at Harvard University under the Fulbright Senior Scholar program. Mrs. Minato has written many books including Women’s
Role in the East and West and Partnership: Home, Church, World. In addition to serving
on the board of World Vision Japan, Mrs. Minato has been a delegate to the International
Women’s Conference, and serves the Morning Glory Church in Tokyo as an ordained teacher.
For her devotion to the evangelization of Japanese people as a scholar, writer, speaker, and
teacher, the Wheaton College Alumni Association is pleased to honor Mrs. Akiko Minato with
the 2008 Distinguished Service to Society Award. |
