Multicultural Scholarships

James E. Burr Minority Scholarship
Established in 1987, the Burr fund was named for James E. Burr, an abolitionist who was buried on the grounds of Wheaton College because it was a "place where blacks were treated equally with whites." These scholarships are available to incoming undergraduate students who are at least 1/4 African-, Asian-, Latino-, or Native-American. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic standing, scholarship essays and need. Awards range from $1000-$4000 and are renewable annually.

Don and Ann Church Scholarship
Funded by an anonymous donor, this scholarship was named for Professor Emeritus, Don Church and his wife Ann, because of his lifelong dedication to urban ministry. The Church scholarship provides six new scholarships for incoming African-American students each year. These awards provide tuition, room and board and a voucher for the student's first semester's books. The scholarships are awarded on the basis of scholarship essays and academic standing. Finalists will be invited to campus for an interview with Scholarship Committee members.

President's Achievement Award
Freshmen named finalist in the Hispanic Scholar Recognition program or the National Achievement program through the PSAT exam are eligible for this award. Scholarships are for $1000 per year and may increase to $2000 based on financial need. No separate application is needed. Recipients will be notified by Wheaton's Financial Aid Office after receipt of finalist documentation.

How to Apply

1. These scholarships are for incoming freshman or transfer domestic students.
2. First complete and submit an application for admission to Wheaton College.
3. Print out the Multicultural Scholarship application (requires Adobe Acrobat Reader), or contact the Admissions Office for a copy of the application.
4. Complete the scholarship application and return it to Wheaton's Admissions Office by December 1 (for Early Action) or by February 1 (for Regular Action).
5. After January 1, File the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) and Wheaton College Financial Aid Application and send the data to Wheaton's Financial Aid Office or visit them online at www.wheaton.edu/finaid.
6. In the month following our receipt of your scholarship application you may be selected for a phone interview with a member of the Scholarship Comittee.
