The Madaba Map
The Department of Biblical and Theological Studies has chosen this icon as representative of the department this year. The image is a map of the city of Jerusalem constructed as a mosaic on the floor of a church in Madaba, Jordon, around the year of 560, during the reign of Justinian. The map is a unifying symbol in the department, as it brings together images of the Bible in both the Old and the New Testament within an archaeological expression as well as involving the role of Christianity in the midst of the many differing religions of the world.
