1. How do I obtain information about admission to the M.A. or Certificate program?

Contact the Graduate Admissions Office at Wheaton College for information about various graduate programs and admissions requirements. They can send you brochures about the programs and about financial aid.

Telephone: 1-800-888-0141

E-mail: gradadm@wheaton.edu

2. What are the admissions requirements?

Admissions requirements include a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university, with an undergraduate GPA of 2.75 or higher. Prospective students must submit an application with transcripts of all post-secondary academic work. The application includes autobiographical information, essays, and letters of recommendation. GRE or MAT scores are required for all students except for international students, who must take the TOEFL.

Non-native speakers of English must submit TOEFL, TSE, and TWE scores. For the M.A. or Certificate in TESOL, a minimum TOEFL score of 600 is required.

In addition, we strongly recommend that applicants to the TESOL programs have prior experience with foreign language learning, either abroad or in the U.S. Many of our graduate students have majors or minors in foreign languages or at least an intermediate level of proficiency in a language. A number of our students also have short-term teaching experience prior to enrolling in the program, although this is not a requirement.

3. What about tuition costs and financial aid?

Click here for the cost of the tuition this current year. A normal full-time academic load is 12 hours per semester.

Financial aid is available in the form of loans, scholarships and grants. Click here for more information on financial aid offered by Wheaton.

The Stafford loan program can be applied to full- or part-time studies. Information about this program (and applications for Stafford loans) are available through the college Financial Aid Office or through local banks and credit unions.

There is over half a million dollars in grant money available to full-time degree graduate students at Wheaton .

Applications for financial aid require a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or Wheaton College Financial Aid Application. The priority deadline is March 1 for admission in the fall. Awards are based on availability of funds. Notification of awards begins in March.

Contact the Financial Aid Office at 1-800-362-2674.

4. What about locating housing?

The College rents a limited number of apartments to graduate students on a first-come, first-served basis. One-bedroom apartments are available for married couples, and two-bedroom apartments are available for couples with children. Single graduate students are housed in one-bedroom apartments, two students per apartment. Most units are furnished.
