Urban Studies Major and Minor Developed
Wheaton College is now offering an urban studies major and minor to undergraduates through a recent expansion of the urban studies department. In the past, Wheaton only had an urban studies certificate, which included either on-campus studies or a semester spent living in the Chicago neighborhood of Uptown through the Wheaton in Chicago program. Due to a recent increased desire among students for a more intentional pursuit of urban studies, the department sought to enlarge its presence. More >

Wheaton’s a cappella group takes on first competition.
A cappella renditions and mash-ups of hit music flowed from the University of Chicago performance hall at the Varsity Vocals International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella (ICCA) competition quarter-finals on Feb. 22, featuring seven college a cappella teams mainly from Illinois — one of them being Wheaton’s own Thundertones. The Thundertones is an a cappella group composed of 14 members from the Wheaton College Men’s Glee Club. More >

Wheaton sends both basketball teams to NCAA tournament for first time since 1999.
The Thunder Men ended this past week on a low note after a struggling performance on Friday, Feb. 22, against North Central College that Coach Mike Schauer could only describe as a “disappointment.” With the loss to the Cardinals, a game in which junior guard Tyler Peters scored 26 of the team’s 50 points and the team only shot 31.9 percent from the field, things looked pretty grim. The storied careers of Wheaton’s trio of senior guards — Jenn Lee, Breanna Bohlen and Brooke Olson — will have one more chapter. After leading her team to a 22-5 record, Olson and the rest of the Thunder women will be playing in their first national tournament, as an at-large bid gave Wheaton its first tournament berth since 2007.
