First impressions are everything, and freshman Graham Stevens’ life was marked by many lasting ones. Freshman Esther Cunningham, who lives on Graham’s sister floor in Smith-Traber Hall, first got to know Graham during the Wheaton tradition of “Roulette,” where students find dates for their roommates and then engage in a group activity. Wheaton Physics Professor Receives Presidential Nomination
Stewart DeSoto appointed to board of trustees of the Barry Goldwater Foundation.
By a United States Senate voice vote, Stewart DeSoto, professor of physics at Wheaton College, was confirmed on Jan. 1, 2013, as a new member of the Board of Trustees of the Barry Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation. President Barack Obama announced his nomination of DeSoto for the position in Sept. 2012. The term will expire on Aug. 11, 2016. More >
East Campus Property Faces a Tenuous Fate
Current Wheaton College property may become home to a new junior high school.
Tensions are mounting between Wheaton College and Glen Ellyn School District 41 over the Wheaton-owned East Campus property, home to the building purchased from Scripture Press. In early March, District 41 announced its intent to acquire the property to build a new junior high school on the site. More >
Thunder Notch First Conference Win
Wheaton baseball heads into series with North Park.
Though it has not been a particularly smooth beginning to the CCIW season, the Wheaton Thunder baseball team broke into the conference win column earlier in the week and looks to build upon that momentum heading into a three-game series with North Park University this weekend. More >
Wheaton Softball Starts Their Season Right
Thunder play three double headers.
After returning home from its spring break trip to Florida, the Thunder softball team has moved its record to 9-5 after double headers against Hope College, Lake Forest College and North Park University. On Thursday, March 28, Wheaton dropped a pair of games to Hope by scores of 5-3 and 6-1, respectively. The score was knotted at 1-1 entering the sixth frame of the first game, but the Flying Dutch broke the game open with a four-spot in the top of the sixth. More >
