My name is Jerry Woehr (pronounced "we're") and I am starting my 4th year as the RD of Fischer Hall. Having grown up in Chile and Ecuador, I feel privileged to live in a hall where people of all backgrounds and experiences come together at Wheaton College. I live right off of the lobby with my wife, Joan, and sons Noah (3.5yrs) & Luther (1yr). Expect to meet my boys running around the lobby, playing basketball, and challenging you to a sword fight. Joan and I met at Wheaton as undergraduates where the Lord somehow brought together a Psychology major (myself) and a Math major (Joan). One of my favorite experiences in college was being a Resident Assistant. After graduating I worked in Chicago for a consulting firm, but continued to stay connected to college students while coaching a club soccer team. Three years later, the Lord brought us back to Wheaton so I could get my M.A. in Christian Formation and Ministry. The program's student development emphasis, and two years serving as a Graduate Resident Advisor on campus, left our family excited to continue living and learning alongside of college students! We love to be outdoors, support the athletic teams on campus, play table games, spend time with friends/family in the area, and host students in our home. My prayer for Fischer Hall is that it might be both a residence and community where students are encouraged, challenged, and cared for through learning experiences, fun, relationships, dialogue and worship.
Kat Haase- Smith-Traber Residence Hall
My name is Kat Haase and I am the RD of Smith-Traber. I live with my husband Dan, who teaches in the Christian Formation and Ministry Department, and our two kids, Christopher (15) and Benjamin (13). Chris and Ben are the dorm mascots and can be found leading massive all dorm nerf wars (so bring your nerf guns) and recruiting students in the lobbies to play Settlers of Catan and Risk. Dan and I met as wilderness leaders at HoneyRock Camp (Wheaton’s Northwoods Campus) and highly recommend the experience (both HoneyRock and dating). We started our first year of marriage as RDs at Covenant College in Lookout Mountain, GA (my hometown) and haven’t left the college world since. After graduating from Wheaton’s undergraduate program as a communications major, I was an admissions counselor for Eastern University in St. Davids, PA where I started to develop a passion for working with college students. I returned to Wheaton’s Graduate school a few years later to earn my master’s degree in Christian Formation and Ministry and to eventually take my first RD position at Covenant College where I continued my studies in Philosophy and Theology. Dan and I have now been back in Wheaton for 15 years and have sincerely loved every year that we have gotten to be with the RAs and students that have come through our building. We are very fortunate to have such amazing and diverse people living with us and having them love on our family. Our hope each year is that Smith-Traber is a place where students feel as though they truly belong and are encouraged and challenged by each other to know and love Jesus more.
My name is Erika Grant and I have the privilege to serve as the Residence Director of the Upperclass halls (Evans-McManis and Williston). I graduated from Wheaton with a B.A. in Psychology and an M.A. in Christian Ministry and Formation. While earning my master's, I served as a Graduate Resident Advisor in Smith Traber. Most recently, I moved from North Carolina, where I worked in Residence Life. My husband, Tyler, and I are both from Colorado and we enjoy hiking, snowboarding, and being outside in the mountains. I am looking forward to serving my second year as the RD of the Upper Class Halls.
Kristy McGarvey is starting her seventh year at Wheaton and her first year as the Residence Director of the Apartments and Houses. She loves the way the college years are so incredibly formational to form, shift and deepen a person’s trajectory toward loving God and loving others which is tangibly lived out in the living rooms and hallways of residence life. Along with this role, she is also a student herself, pursuing an MDiv through Fuller Seminary in California. After growing up in the Philippines and Colorado, she attended Asbury College in Kentucky, studying Biology and Christian Ministry and Wheaton College where she received an MA in Intercultural Studies. She loves being an aunt to Silas and Auggie, good coffee, books and conversation and can’t pass up a good deal at a garage sale. Kristy lives right on Irving Street so stop on by to sit on the porch swing or pet her dog, Sadie.
