My name is Stephen Cartwright and this is my first year as an RD in Fischer Hall. I served in Residence Life throughout much of college and seminary, and I value the unique opportunities it presents to live out the Gospel of Jesus Christ through encouragement, challenge and development of one another. When I'm not in Fischer, I can likely be found preaching, playing basketball, reading, having insightful conversations, or laughing at random nonsense. I majored in Business Management at Trinity International University, and just before graduating with my bachelors, decided to pursue a Master of Divinity from Trinity. I loved working with undergraduates as a GRA and I'm excited to continue doing so in Fischer as an RD! It is my prayer that Fischer will be a place that edifies students and staff and glorifies the Risen Christ! A place where the love of Christ is reflected by the ways in which we live out the Good News! A place where individuals feel seen, heard, known and valued and are compelled to help others feel the same. I look forward to getting to know you this year!
Smith-Traber Residence Hall
My name is Kat Haase and I am the RD of Smith-Traber. I live with my husband Dan, who teaches in the Christian Formation and Ministry Department, and our two kids, Christopher (15) and Benjamin (13). Chris and Ben are the dorm mascots and can be found leading massive all dorm nerf wars (so bring your nerf guns) and recruiting students in the lobbies to play Settlers of Catan and Risk. Dan and I met as wilderness leaders at HoneyRock Camp (Wheaton’s Northwoods Campus) and highly recommend the experience (both HoneyRock and dating). We started our first year of marriage as RDs at Covenant College in Lookout Mountain, GA (my hometown) and haven’t left the college world since. After graduating from Wheaton’s undergraduate program as a communications major, I was an admissions counselor for Eastern University in St. Davids, PA where I started to develop a passion for working with college students. I returned to Wheaton’s Graduate school a few years later to earn my master’s degree in Christian Formation and Ministry and to eventually take my first RD position at Covenant College where I continued my studies in Philosophy and Theology. Dan and I have now been back in Wheaton for 16 years and have sincerely loved every year that we have gotten to be with the RAs and students that have come through our building. We are very fortunate to have such amazing and diverse people living with us and having them love on our family. Our hope each year is that Smith-Traber is a place where students feel as though they truly belong and are encouraged and challenged by each other to know and love Jesus more.
My name is Erika Grant and I have the privilege to serve as the Residence Director of the Upperclass halls (Evans-McManis and Williston). I graduated from Wheaton with a B.A. in Psychology and an M.A. in Christian Ministry and Formation. While earning my master's, I served as a Graduate Resident Advisor in Smith Traber. Most recently, I moved from North Carolina, where I worked in Residence Life. My husband, Tyler, and I are both from Colorado and we enjoy hiking, snowboarding, and being outside in the mountains. I am looking forward to serving my third year as the RD of the Upper Class Halls.
Campus Apartments and Houses
Kristy McGarvey is starting her ninth year at Wheaton and her second year as the Residence Director of the Apartments and Houses. She loves the way the college years are so incredibly formational to form, shift and deepen a person’s trajectory toward loving God and loving others which is tangibly lived out in the living rooms and hallways of residence life. Along with this role, she is also a student herself, pursuing an MDiv through Fuller Seminary in California. After growing up in the Philippines and Colorado, she attended Asbury College in Kentucky, studying Biology and Christian Ministry and Wheaton College where she received an MA in Intercultural Studies. She loves being an aunt to Silas and Auggie, good coffee, books and conversation and can’t pass up a good deal at a garage sale. Kristy lives right on Irving Street so stop on by to sit on the porch swing or pet her dog, Sadie.
