Nathaniel Mullins, Chair

Childhood Nickname

I have always been known as "Nathaniel"

What I love about Wheaton

Wheaton creates the space in and out of the classroom for the deliberate cultivation of love toward God and others, facilitates holistic personal formation rooted in Christ, and encourages the Spirit-filled life.

Why YHM?

Intentional spiritual conversations, deeper friendships, joyful hospitality, bolder faith, getting lost while backpacking Europe… why not YHM?

Words to live by …

Rejoice always. Pray continually. Give thanks in all circumstances. Test everything – hold on to the good. Avoid every kind of evil.

Craziest thing I’ve done

held my breath for over five minutes

I want to …… before I die

memorize Psalm 119

It bothers me when ….

I can't think of something more creative than this.

People often say I’m …..

like their dad

Emily Mirrilees, Administrator

Childhood Nickname

Little Nelle – it comes from a traditional Scottish children’s story that my dad always told me and it stuck.

What I love about Wheaton

Wheaton offers students opportunities but does not coddle them. Students have opportunities that will pass them by if they are not proactive and that has given me the initiative to go after what I want, full throttle.

Why YHM?

YHM is catered to the unique backpacking community of Europe. In the backpacking community, people are aware that they are surrounded by many cultures with many different beliefs. There is not a barrier of polite conversation when it comes to subjects such as religion or politics. It was not odd for me to meet someone while on YHM and be talking about their religion, or lack thereof, in under 5 minutes. I loved the organic openness people are so willing to have while backpacking and I’ve never experienced it on any other missions trip.

Words to live by …

Life begins at the end of your comfort zone.

Craziest thing I’ve done

On the first day of junior year, I decided I’d lived in Wheaton too long and needed to “get out” (I am a Wheaton native), so I packed one suitcase and moved to California alone. I got a radio show and rode a knock-off Razor scooter everywhere for 6 months before I returned to Wheaton College for the rest of my degree. PS: My show was called EM in the PM and I only interviewed eligible bachelors so I guess I was a matchmaker too.

I want to …… before I die

See the Northern Lights. Box with a kangaroo in Australia (but it needs to be a little one because I hear they’re crazy strong). Backpack through Europe again.

It bothers me when ….

People worry about ring by spring. Listen up! It’s OK to not be engaged at 21. God loves you, and it’s actually not the end of the world to graduate college single.

People often say I’m …..

Spontaneous, hilarious and a pretty good cook. Shameless plug: if you sign up for YHM, I’ll probably make you cookies.
