Student Ministry Partners Cabinet

Hannah Velling

Chair

What I love about Wheaton:
The energy, the people(!) and the Christ centeredness!

Why SMP?
Through SMP I was able to spend time in a country that I fell in love with alongside people who sought after the goodness of the Lord in worlds and actions. Why wounldn't I want to be a part of that again?

Craziest things I've done:
Flown to Istanbul, Turkey to Ephesus and back in a day.

I want to...before I die:
Serve internationally, become a pilot, knit a scarf...the list goes on.

It bothers me when:
The one who finishes the toilet paper doesn't replace the role.

 Lisa Moore

Administrator

What I love about Wheaton:
The people! There are so many fun, encouraging, thoughtful, loving, God-fearing people. They have all taught me so much.

Why SMP?
I love how SMP is all about partnerships: partnering with other Wheaton students, ministries, and God. The Bible talks so much about partnering together to spread the Good News. I also love how every trip and experience is so different! It is a wonderful way to learn more about the global church.

Craziest things I've done:
Went on a safari where our open truck go stuck next to six lions!

I want to...before I die:
Be in a flash mob.

It bothers me when:
People accuse me of being narcoleptic. I just consider myself a very good napper.

It bothers me when:

People often say I am:

Morgan Sorenson

Placement Coordinator

What I love about Wheaton:
Saga’s peanut butter bars, awkward chapel buddies, actually getting a PakSlip…but what has really made my Wheaton experience incredible has been forming life-giving friendships with many dear brothers and sisters in Christ.

Why SMP?
SMP provides a unique opportunity for us to broaden our understanding of the Global Church and to experience God working among the nations through the ministries of our various partners. We are each called to be missional, and SMP facilitates the discovery of what roles we can play for the Kingdom.

 Craziest things I've done:
I kayaked around the coast of Crete a few summers ago, having never kayaked in my life before!

Words to live by:
Bring love. Seek peace. Accept grace.

It bothers me when:
I wipe out in the winter on black ice.

Jessalyn Foggy

Travel Coordinator

Why SMP?
I am passionate about service and travel because they open up your eyes to how big God is and how small you are.

Craziest things I've done:
White water rafting on the Nile River

Words to live by:
“He [Jesus] is the only significance.”- Bonhoeffer

It bothers me when:
People chew their cereal with their mouth open.

Craziest thing I've done:
White water rafting on the Nile River.

Travel Coordinator

What I love about Wheaton:
Saga.  Especially Saga carrot cake, omelets, peanut butter bars, cowboy cookies, etc.  Let’s be honest, I’m just at Wheaton so that I can have an 18 meal plan (sorry, Mom).  Another great reason you should visit the OCO: they have (massive amounts of wonderful) food.

But in all honesty, Wheaton represents a very unique community of energized, creative-minded, servant-hearted, moderately hipster, and enthusiastically outgoing Christ-lovers.  If you pack 2,400 of these wonderful folks into an 80-acre campus, exciting things are bound to happen.

Why SMP?
SMP is the greatest thing to happen to me since I discovered Saga raspberry oat bars.  I am convinced that you couldn’t find another organization that prepares, nurtures and equips you better for a summer (and lifestyle) of Kingdom-driven service-learning.

But it gets better.  The OCO is like the mafia.  They have connections and support networks everywhere.  So not only will you be able to find a ministry opportunity that connects your personal passion with God’s people, We organize all the details of getting you there and plugging you in to the missions work of one of the OCO’s partner organizations.  Did I mention that through the work of the Spirit and some cooperative fundraising, we are blessed to send students to the seven winds with minimal financial burden?  Okay, I think you get the point.

Craziest thing I've done:
I once said “hi” to President Ryken.  (He probably doesn’t remember).

Special Projects Coordinator

It bothers me when:

People often say I am:

Lee Nankervis

Fundraising Coordinator

What I love about Wheaton:
Volleyball with friends, being challenged in class, opportunities for new experiences (like SMP and Wheaton in the Holy Lands)

Why SMP?
SMP offers a diverse set of ministries and matches the student to their ministry based on their gifts and passions. There’s a ministry for everyone and SMP provides the connection so that students can use their summer to live out the Great Commission.

Craziest things I've done:
Jumped off 50ft cliffs into the sea in Italy.

I want to...before I die:
Wrestle a gorilla (and win).

It bothers me when:
My fresh Nike Frees get scuffed.

Words to live by:
Get jacked. Get cash. Scoop dimes. Read Bible.
