Who We Are
Unidad Cristiana exists to provide fellowship and support for students of Hispanic backgrounds in order for them to develop their ethnic identity in Christ. We also aim to provide Hispanic students the opportunities to explore and celebrate their different cultures alongside those interested in the Hispanic community.
Our Goals
Our hope is that, through events and fellowship, we will foster community, relationships with one another, and relationship with God. We use our common love of Latino culture to reach out to students on campus who want to gain a better understanding of what it means to honor God through diversity and heritage.
Our Theme 2012 - 2013: Familia
Familia means family. This is exactly what we want Unidad Cristiana to look like - a family. We are welcoming, accepting and culturally diverse. We want people to feel comfortable to be themselves, Hispanic or not. We want to pray together, worship together, eat together, have fun together, struggle together, and honor God together.
2012 - 2013 Verse: Philippians 2:1-2
"Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind." Essentially, this verse illustrates our vision for Unidad. Believers should, first and foremost, strive to have the mind of Jesus Christ. In everything we do as the family of Unidad Cristiana, we want to first do as the family of God. If we desire the benefits Christ has for us, we must strive to honor Him in all that we do.
Who Can Join
Unidad Cristiana is an organization that focuses on fostering the Hispanic community on campus, but anyone is invited to join. Our primary desire is to see God glorified and honored through the organization as we seek to cultivate a spiritually nurturing atmosphere. We use fellowship within the Wheaton College Community to provide support and to encourage Hispanic students alongside those interested in these cultures. We also hope to promote awareness of the diversity within Latino cultures to all of the body.
