Bruce Koenigsberg, on behalf of Wheaton College, joined the United States Green Building Council, which awards LEED certification.
The College received LEED Silver certification for its Memorial Student Center renovation.
The college will apply for LEED Silver or Gold certification for the new science building. The building has an energy-recovery unit in the attic, and 10% of electricity will come from a renewable source. Drought-tolerant, native plants will be used in landscaping. A green roof will be installed if funds are available. Showers for commuters will be provided in the building.
All new construction and remodeling projects include environmental factors in the design process, including using recycled materials.
