Professor Roberts specializes in contemporary metaphysics with related interests in philosophical logic, philosophy of language, and philosophy of mind. He is trained as an analytic philosopher. His focus in graduate school was on the ontology of substance and universals, particularly propositions and states of affairs. His dissertation surveys the history of ontologies of states of affairs beginning in the late 19th century and tracing it up to the present day. In the second half of his dissertation, he provides a new theory of states of affairs based on the logical forms of concepts. This theory is compatible with a correspondence theory of truth. Professor Roberts studied under professors George Bealer (now at Yale) and Michael Tooley. Dr. Roberts continues to pursue research in these areas and is also interested in their application to philosophical theology, particularly divine foreknowledge. Dr. Roberts enjoys spending time with his wife, Jessica, and their new daughter Karis. He has many interests and enjoys playing basketball and golf.
