Professional and Personal Interests

I specialize in Metaphysics and Epistemology. I also work in Philosophy of Religion and Just War Theory. I have broad philosophical interests, and am excited about being in a department that offers such a wide range of excellent scholarship. Outside of philosophy, I spend my time taking care of my two Jack Russels (Peekaboo and Plato), exploring the Prairie Path, and worrying about the Cubs.

Research |
My current research includes thinking hard about the nature of resurrection and the various philosophical problems it raises, arguing for the adoption of a new modal semantics, and critiquing the assumptions that support contemporary just war theory. I think that a new modal semantics can help us overcome worries about modal skepticism and illuminate the link between conceivability and possibility. The doctrine of resurrection appeals to me because it is both a particular case of the more general problem of personal identity, and an opportunity to apply philosophy to theological concerns.
