The Perry Mastodon: An Exhibit at Wheaton College

A gift of Judge and Mrs. Joseph Sam Perry

Discovered in Glen Ellyn, Illinois

October 16, 1963

The Perry Mastodon is displayed in the Edwin F. Deicke Exhibit Hall in Armerding Hall on the Wheaton College campus. As a valuble teaching aid and a community treasure, it has been viewed by thousands of individuals and tour groups.

The 16 foot long, nine foot tall American Mastodon has been reconstructed and mounted on a revolving platform. An audio presentation tells the story of the Perry Mastodon. A multimedia presentation documents the actual excavation, restoration, and installation of the skeleton.

The Perry Mastodon can be observed from the inside of the Exhibit Hall, with access to the audio and multimedia presentations, between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. Monday through Friday. Other times, the mastodon can be viewed, with access to the audio presentation, outside of the Exhibit Hall from a patio between Armerding Hall and Breyer Laboratory.

In addition to the Perry Mastodon, visitors are invited to examine other geological exhibits on the third floor of Breyer Laboratory.

Visitor parking is available in the lot behind Edman Memorial Chapel (between Washington St., Jefferson Ave., and Irving St.), or along Kenilworth Ave. beside the tennis courts.

The multimedia presentation is available on-line from this location. Enjoy your visit to the Perry Mastodon.
