101 Ways to Be a World Christian
Senders | Servicers | "Go-ers" | Going

If there are reasons you cannot go overseas, or if the time has not yet come, be a Sender.

Local Church Involvement
It sounds simple but remember that Wheaton College is a community of believers and has wonderful resources but is not a church. Therefore the first thing to do when you are thinking of being mobilized for missions as either a sender or are going is to get involved as a regular worshipper at a local church. Let church leaders know of your heart for missions and ask them to start praying for you. Acts 13 gives the wonderful example of Paul and Barnabas being sent out for missions from the local church.

1) PRAY

Information on the current needs of our world:

    Operation World
Find profiles by political country, offering statistics on the political, economic, and ethnic realities of the country, as well as current praises and urgent prayer requests. You can also buy this material in a book or CD-ROM.

    People Groups
You can search this website by people name, religion, continent/country, language or status of evangelization. Also, find out what a people group is and why it is important for world evangelization.

    Joshua Project
"The mission and passion of Joshua Project is to identify and highlight the people groups of the world that have the least exposure to the Gospel and the least Christian presence in their midst. Joshua Project shares this information to encourage pioneer church-planting movements among every ethnic people group."

    Bethany World Prayer Center
Search by ethnic group to find brief descriptions and ways you can pray. Be prepared to be touched as you read about the lives, beliefs and needs of unreached peoples.

    Voice of the Martyrs
Sign up for VOM's free monthly newsletter, and learn how you can pray for our persecuted brothers and sisters around the globe.

2) GIVE to the kingdom cause

Jesus said, "Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." Cultivate the heart of a World Christian as you advance God's kingdom around the world... through giving to missionaries or mission agencies. Consider making mission needs a regular part of your tithe.

3) ENCOURAGE missionaries

Ask them how you can pray for their lives and ministry. E-mail them regularly with encouragement. Find out what they would like you to send in care packages. If they are coming home on furlough, help them find a car to use and a place to stay. Find a much more extensive list at: www.calebproject.org/bomm/dn_henti.html

4) MOBILIZE laborers for the harvest

Be creative in helping those around you catch a heart for the world! Here's some ideas to get you started...

    1. Be a traveling mobilizer on college campuses (www.thetravelingteam.org).
    2. Join the home staff of a mission agency and help recruit overseas workers.
    3. Become a staff member at U.S. Center for World Mission (www.uscwm.org), which has an entire department devoted to mobilization.
    4. Write music about the needs of the world.
    5. Do a drama about missions at your church.
    6. Teach Sunday School children about the kids in Pakistan who don't know Jesus.
    7. Start a Perspectives course at your church (www.perspectives.org). Get your church to "adopt" a people group (www.adoptapeople.org).

    The Mission Mobilizer's Database
This website has not only resources for mobilizers, but anyone who wants to keep up with the current missions scene. It gives resources for mobilizing in different arenas, worship songs and videos related to mission, current debates in mission, information on people groups and the persecuted church... and more.

ACMC (Advancing Churches in Missions Commitment)
"We want to see local churches all over planet earth actively engaged in declaring God's glory among the nations"

5) STRATEGIZE

According to the US Center for World Mission, "Strategy comes from the Greek word for 'generalship of armies.' It can also be used for the way any group marshals its resources to achieve its goals." Help critique and improve the way missions is done worldwide, so that God's kingdom can effectively advance.
