Join Wheaton College in the Meyer Science Center on Saturday, October 26 for Stones and Bones: A 50th Birthday Party for the Perry Mastodon.
The family-friendly open house, featuring geology-themed activities, crafts, games, a community art project and birthday treats will take place from 10 am to 1 pm. It will also include appearances by Stertorus “Tor” Thunder, Wheaton’s plush mastodon mascot.
The open house commemorates the 50th anniversary of the discovery of the skeleton of a Mastodon Americanus on the Glen Ellyn property of U.S. Federal District Court Judge Joseph Sam Perry. The Perry Mastodon was excavated by Wheaton College geology majors, then restored. It has been on display on Wheaton’s campus since 1974.
The Meyer Science Center is located at 430 Howard Street in Wheaton; parking is available in the Howard Street parking lot, or on the east side of the Billy Graham Center. For more information, please call the Office of Media Relations at 630.752.5015.
