Lecture: Does Physical Cosmology Confirm Theistic Belief?

Hans Halvorson, professor of philosophy at Princeton University, will deliver a lecture titled “Does Physical Cosmology Confirm Theistic Belief?” at 7 p.m. Wednesday, November 2.

Dr. Halvorson will discuss the bearing of physical cosmology on theistic belief from both historical and systematic points of view. Physical cosmology establishes precise and empirically confirmed facts about the origin and history of the universe. The lecture will address what these facts are, whether they agree with traditional Christian doctrines, whether the "Big Bang" theory supports theism and should be equated with the creation event, and what impact recent developments in quantum cosmology and multiverses have on these questions.

The lecture takes place in the Science Center Lecture Hall, located at 430 Howard Street in Wheaton. The McIntyre Lecture series exists to promote understanding of the purposes and limits of science by examining historical and philosophical influences. For more information, call 630.752.5007.
