SALT Overview

The School of Adventure Leadership Training (SALT) at HoneyRock provides advanced ministry and leadership experience to college students who love Jesus and want to invest in the lives of others. The program combines intensive training with real-life ministry, as over the course of the summer staff transition to leading high school students in HoneyRock’s 2:22 program and incoming college freshman in Wheaton Passage.

SALT Training

SALT training is six weeks long, during which students will receive extensive training in the areas of adventure ministry, high school ministry, and facilitative leadership. Community and personal development are also critical focuses during this time. Additionally, students will receive training in areas such as backpacking, sea kayaking, canoeing, group facilitation, CPR/AED, Wilderness First Aid, and water safety.  Training is provided by Wheaton College faculty and HoneyRock staff.

2:22 for High School Students

SALT staff will serve as cabin leaders for a small group of high school students during the four weeks of the 2:22 program. 2:22 uses an extended wilderness trip, in-camp activities, and service opportunities to challenge high school students with what it means to follow Jesus Christ.

Wheaton Passage

The Passage program focuses on preparing incoming Wheaton students for college. Staff will serve as leaders for the Wilderness track of Passage, mentoring students in their transition to college by engaging them in the areas of spiritual formation, identity, community, service, and worship.

Adventure Ministry Certificate

Students will earn four credit hours in applied leadership and adventure ministry programming. You also have the opportunity to obtain ceritifications in Wilderness First Responder and also ACA Sea Kayak Coastal Leader or Canoe Leader. Please be aware that CE 472 is REQUIRED if this is your first summer attending a leadership school at HoneyRock.
