Vision for Graduate Coordinator positions:
The Graduate Coordinator (GC) positions are designed to prepare exceptional leaders for the Christian outdoor, adventure, and camp ministry movements. This is accomplished by giving these individuals the context for integrating their coursework with real life ministry as part of the HoneyRock staff. Individuals in these graduate assistantships are enrolled in the Outdoor and Adventure Leadership graduate concentration, are expected to integrate their learning with their program leadership responsibilities, are fully immersed in the HoneyRock community, and are mentored along the way by a professional in the field. It is our hope that the stipend from employment will help to offset tuition, especially if supplemented with financial aid. These positions involve 3 summers and 2 school years of ministry and learning. The first summer, the new GC is an assistant to the outgoing GC. This is followed by a school year taking courses, the middle summer running their program, a second school year finishing the degree, and final summer training their replacement. It is our desire to help place these individuals in ministry in the US or abroad with a HoneyRock partner upon completion of the 28-month experience.
Under the direction of the HoneyRock Program Managers, GCs are part-time employees who are responsible for coordinating a program area of HoneyRock. GCs work between 20-25 hours per week during the school year (September through April) and have a full-time, seasonal staff role in the summer (May through August). These positions are integrally linked to graduate study in outdoor and adventure ministry. As a result individuals must carry a course load of 8-12 graduate school credits each semester at the Wheaton College Graduate School in either the Christian Formation and Ministry or Evangelism and Leadership programs with the Outdoor and Adventure Leadership concentration.

- Residential Camp Program Coordinator: This position will work under the supervision of the SLS Program Manager to coordinate the Residential Camp program. It is based in Wheaton during the school year and at HoneyRock in the summer. They will help coordinate the Wheaton-based adventure trip program during the school year. They will assist with Wheaton-based student and camper recruitment efforts.
- College Retreat Program Coordinator: This position will work under the supervision of the SLS Program Manager to coordinate all Wheaton College based retreats at HoneyRock during the year including WIN, Winter WIN, HNGR, Education Dept., Student Development and more. This position will expand our group development program on campus and increase Wheaton’s use of HoneyRock throughout the year. This position is located in Wheaton during the school year and HoneyRock during the summer. They will work closely with the Registration Coordinator, Retreat Coordinator and Adventure Ministries Program Manager at HoneyRock to coordinate housing and programs. They will assist with Wheaton-based camper and student recruitment.
- Activity Area Coordinator: This position will work under the supervision of the Program Maintenance Manager to coordinate all of HoneyRock’s winter and summer activity areas. This also involves hiring, training and supervising the 20 summer activity staff who serve all programs of camp each summer. This role is based at HoneyRock year round.
- Group Retreat Coordinator: This position will work under the supervision of the Adventure Ministries Program Manager to coordinate all church, youth, and school group retreats at HoneyRock throughout the year. During the summer this person will assist with the adventure challenge program and spend time recruiting, promoting, and developing the September to April retreat ministry. There is opportunity for significant growth in the use of HoneyRock during the school year. This role is based at HoneyRock year round.
- High School Program Coordinator: This position will work under the supervision of the Adventure Ministries Program Manager to coordinate the 2:22 program. This includes school year discipleship of the campers and the hiring and training of staff (through on campus seminars) during the spring semester. This role is based at HoneyRock year round.
- Service Team Program Coordinator: This position will work under the supervision of the Adventure Ministries Program Manager to coordinate the Service Team program. This includes school year discipleship and the hiring and training of the staff (through on campus seminars) during the spring semester. This person will also work with the Site and Facilities staff to help coordinate all camp based service projects during the year (work-play weekends, Wheaton Passage service projects, etc.). This role is based at HoneyRock year round.
- Wheaton Passage/Adventure Challenge Coordinator: This person will work under the supervision of the Program Director to coordinate all aspects of Wheaton Passage. This includes marketing for students, staff, and faculty; selecting staff; developing the workbooks and staff training materials; developing service project and alternate site locations (Chicago, Angola, Black Hills); completing staff training; and evaluating the program, etc. This person will also coordinate all programming on HoneyRock’s adventure challenge courses, including hiring, training and supervising 2-4 summer staff and all school year use. This role is based at HoneyRock year round.
- Head Wrangler: This position will work under the supervision of the Ranch Coordinator as the head wrangler to lead the HoneyRock equestrian program. This person will help select, train, supervise, and disciple the 5 summer staff wranglers. This role is based at HoneyRock year round. (Position begins fall 2014).
- Food Service Coordinators: Two positions designed for someone desiring to learn leadership and camp ministry through the food service department. This person will work under the supervision of the Hospitality Manager to learn all aspects of food service and will play an important role in hiring, supervising, training and disciplining the 20 summer kitchen staff. These individuals will participate in developing creative food service programs as part of the overall camp experience. This role is based at HoneyRock year round. (Position begins fall 2014).
- GAP Program Coordinators (2 positions—1 female, 1 male): This position will help develop and run HoneyRock's new GAP year program for 24-48 post high school, pre-college students. This program is currently under development and is expected to begin in September 2014. Individuals in these roles will perform the role of residence directors, disciplers, and program coordinators under the supervision of the GAP program manager. These coordinators will be heavily involved in the day to day, ongoing discipleship and program coordination of the program. (Positions begin in fall of 2014).
- Food Service Coordinator: This position works with the Hospitality Manager to supervise the food service operation at HoneyRock. Individuals in this role will learn food preparation etc. . .
Graduate Coordinator Duties:
- As a member of the HoneyRock permanent staff team, fulfill the mission, vision and core values of HoneyRock and Wheaton College.
- Engage as an active member in HoneyRock staff meetings, retreats and in-service training for the purpose of planning, information sharing, support, and personal, professional, and community development.
- Plan and coordinate the programs under your responsibility with the input and support of your immediate supervisor.
- Assist the program manager with the hiring and training of the seasonal staff/students involved in your program area.
- Supervise and disciple the seasonal staff/students under your care in line with the core values and desired outcomes of HoneyRock.
- Complete the program assessment of both the campers and staff/students for your area and write a report following HoneyRock staff procedures. Make recommendations for program improvement for the ensuing season.
- Develop annual growth goals for your program area (depth of impact and/or level of enrollment) in conjunction with direct supervisor and the HoneyRock program team.
- Develop and complete a marketing plan for your program areas that will help achieve the enrollment and budget goals established for your program. This may include Internet promotion, exhibiting at conferences, phone calls, personal meetings, appropriate presentations and any other appropriate means.
- Complete at least one publishable research article and presentation during your tenure as a Graduate Coordinator. This can be done in conjunction with an assignment in your graduate program.
- Participate in the regional CCCA conference offered each March and in at least one national conference in a related field during your tenure as a Graduate Coordinator.
- Perform other duties as requested.
Graduate Coordinator Schedule:
- Arrive at HoneyRock by May 6 to fulfill responsibilities in the area you will leading in the coming fall. (Exceptions may be made at the discretion of senior administration.)
- Graduate Coordinators will participate in all HoneyRock summer training and shadow outgoing GC during the first summer.
- Fall and Spring Semesters will include part time work and regular class schedules.
- During the second summer of employment, GC will have full ownership of their program area.
- A final summer training the next GC is required to complete terms of employment.
