2:22 Overview
"So flee youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart." - 2 Timothy 2:22
Welcome to the 2:22 high school program! Whether first-timers or returning to 2:22, next summer's participants will have the opportunity to pursue a Masters in as many activity areas as possible, try a new wilderness or service trip option, continue to build relationships returning friends while making new ones, and allow our counselors to carry on their growth as Christ-followers. The purpose of 2:22 is to teach students skills at camp that they can take back to school, friendships, sports teams and community with confidence, compassion, truth, faith, and integrity. This program is the bridge from Advance Camp and a launching program into our capstone leadership programs: Service Team and Assistant Counselors.
Program Description
2:22 is for 10th -12th Grade students who want to experience and learn what it means to follow Jesus and live for Him in a community-oriented environment. This four-week adventure will help high-schoolers develop habits for studying God’s Word. Teamwork will develop healthy relationships among peers, activities will challenge them to push for their Masters and service projects will teach them to care for others. The wilderness trips will allow students to find freedom from the distractions of everyday life. The combination of activities in 2:22 will vary from year to year, so we hope students will return for another summer of 2:22 if they aren’t able to do Service Team or AC.
Service Opportunities
After three weeks of learning about how to connect to God’s mission in the world, 2:22 will be split into two multi-gender groups who may travel to urban Minneapolis or to the local Three Lakes/Eagle River towns. Students will have opportunities to help fix houses, run vacation Bible school, take prayer walks, or perform trail maintenance.
Counselors
Most of our counselors are Wheaton College students who have previous HoneyRock experience. After an extensive application process, all counselors go through up to 6 weeks of intense training led by HoneyRock’s full-time professional staff and a variety of college professors who are experts in child development and working with youth. Our training model is the best possible preparation for students to become excellent counselors. During this time, counselors learn wilderness trip and Wilderess First Responder skills, become Red Cross certified in CPR/AED and Water Safety, and learn how to create Bible studies targeted for high school students.
Activities
HoneyRock offers unique activities such as canoeing, sailing, kayaking, swimming, waterskiing, horsemanship, wilderness skills, crafts, ceramics, mountain biking, climbing, archery and riflery. Students in 2:22 will have one week dedicated to progressing in HoneyRock activity areas as they work on developing their skills and pursuing their Masters.
Wilderness Trips
2:22 will utilize wilderness trips to develop young people. While trips vary in length, location and mode of travel, all trips involve fun, adventure, community-building and challenge. HoneyRock provides all the necessary equipment for wilderness trips. Participants must provide their own wilderness style sleeping bag and clothing.
Name
The name “2:22” comes from II Timothy 2:22 which says, “Flee the evil desires of youth, and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.”
Sleeping Bag Purchase Program
This summer all participants in our high school programs are required to provide their own ‘wilderness style’ sleeping bag. We are no longer supplying sleeping bags for participants out of our trip locker. We are offering participants the option to purchase a new Marmot ‘Trestles’ sleeping bag for $69; this is $20 less than retail stores. We have chosen this bag because it is the ideal sleeping bag for use in all our high school programs. This fully synthetic, 30-degree rated sleeping bag is warm, versatile, durable and packs easily for use on wilderness trips and campouts. If you are interested in purchasing a sleeping bag please check the box on the registration form. Participants will receive their sleeping bag when they arrive at HoneyRock. Each bag will also have a HoneyRock nametag attached to the zipper pull so it can be easily identified.
