More than ever, students need what HoneyRock has to offer. Today’s culture focuses on being better than others, having the best stuff, and looking good. As a result, young people are missing the character development and discipleship in Christ that they so desperately need. HoneyRock seeks to develop the whole person in a way that is permanent and life changing. We are focused on building the character traits participants need to be leaders, to serve others, and to face the challenges and disappointments in life.
Today’s young people and college students alike are more distracted than ever. They don’t need another tech gadget or endless entertainment; they need character, spiritual development and adventure HoneyRock has brought to young people for over 60 years. HoneyRock provides a chance to get away from the noise and busyness of every day life to a quiet place encompassed by God’s creation.
As a Camp
HoneyRock is unique in the world of Christian camping as a camp that is owned by a College and as a place where transformational discipleship is the goal. Being a camp that is also a college is unparalleled in Christian camping and offers many great benefits to our campers: counselors and group leaders are high-quality, Christian college students passionate about working with young people. College professors who teach at HoneyRock each summer assess programs and guide staff in areas of psychology, Christian education, physical education, and Bible and Theology. Professional staff of Wheaton College also coordinate HoneyRock’s health services, risk management, legal, financial, and human resource departments.
Our programs are focused on holistic life change. We accomplish this through a decentralized ministry philosophy in which small groups are lead by high-quality, well-trained leaders through experiences that challenge them individually, build them as teams, and confront them with the truth of the gospel. Our camp programs are longer than most so that youth have the opportunity to be fully detoxed from regular life, build lasting relationships, and form new ways of living and thinking.
As a College
HoneyRock provides a unique setting for undergraduate and graduate students to test their learning in the crucible of hands-on ministry and community life. The informal, distraction-free, natural environment provides a deep interaction with professors, peers, course content and creation. At HoneyRock, “class” never ends; professors are more guides than lecturers, learning is immediately applied in ministry and service, and fellow students are collaborators in learning not competitors. We have found that learning is deeper, relationships are truer, God seems closer, and personal transformation is real.
