Wayne Frey

Wayne Frey (Great Lakes Region)

Regional Director of Development

Wayne Frey is Wheaton's regional director of development for the Great Lakes, including Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois and Wisconsin. Wayne has served as a regional director since 2001. He earned his B.A. at Tulsa University after spending his freshman year at Taylor University. Wayne joined Wheaton after 23 years in medical equiment sales. Wayne and his wife, Nancy, who works in the College's human resources department, have four children. "To see firsthand and hear how God is working through Wheaton grads locally and around the world is not only exciting but motivating for Nancy and me."

Kevin Engel

Kevin Engel (Chicago Area)

Regional Director of Development

Kevin Engel is a regional director of development for Wheaton College in the Chicago area. Kevin earned his B.A. from Wheaton in 1984, and after earning an M.Div. from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, Kevin returned to Wheaton to serve in the Office of Christian Outreach for six years. He has served in ministry in the U.S. and overseas, most recently as a pastor of Jericho Road Church in Wheaton. Kevin and his wife, Jan Beers Engel '85, have three children, one of whom is a Wheaton alumna.

Jared Wilhelm

Jared Wilhelm (Central U.S. Region)

Regional Director of Development

Jared Wilhelm is Wheaton College's regional director of development for the central U.S. including Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota and Montana. Jared received a B.A. in history from Wheaton College in 1997. In 1999, he received his M.A. in biblical and theological studies from the Wheaton College Graduate School. Upon graduation from Wheaton, Jared began his career of nonprofit administration, management, and leadership, and he has spent the last nine years in higher education development work. Jared is delighted to be serving his alma mater in order to advance Christ’s kingdom. He lives in Wheaton with his wife, Juliana M.A. ’96, and their four children.

Eric Hamsho

Eric Hamsho (Southwest Region)

Regional Director of Development

Eric Hamsho is Wheaton's regional director of development for the southwestern U.S. including Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, Arizona, Utah, Nevada and Wyoming.  Eric earned a Bachelor of Music degree with elective studies in business from Wheaton College in 1993. Since graduating, he has served as a pastor of worship and music in three congregations, most recently in Raleigh, North Carolina. Eric has found great joy investing in the local church through the teaching and leading of worship. He also enjoys spending time with his family and the opportunity to coach his kids in baseball and soccer. Eric and his wife Stacia are privileged and excited to be a part of the Wheaton College community with their three children, Ben, Jaimeson, and Elliana.

David Melilli

David Melilli (Western Region)

Senior Philanthropic Advisor

David has served at the College since 2005 originally in Gift Planning Services and now as a member of the Development team. He is a licensed attorney and has also earned a LL.M. in taxation and is a resource and advisor for charitable, financial, tax and estate planning decisions. David assists individuals and families on the West Coast (including Idaho, Washington, Oregon, California, Alaska and Hawaii) and throughout the nation grow their giving strategically and efficiently for Christ and His kingdom. David and his wife Julie (Class of 1995) greatly enjoy serving at Wheaton College along with their children David, Aaron, Josie and Megan. In addition to his duties at the College David is involved in coaching his kids in baseball and basketball as well as investing in their various church activities. David adds, "I feel like I missed something special by not attending Wheaton. I'm motivated in my work here to make sure other families and individuals don't miss an opportunity to attend and invest with Wheaton College."

Tory Gum

Tory Gum (Southeastern Region)

Regional Director of Development

Tory Gum serves as Wheaton’s regional director of development for the southeastern U.S. including Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana and Florida. Prior to coming to Wheaton, Tory served in a variety of roles at Judson University including key roles in advancement. Tory earned a bachelor’s degree from Wayland Baptist University and completed his graduate studies at Northern Illinois University. Tory and his wife Sandy are honored to be a part of the Wheaton College family along with their children Alexa, Lauren, Jordan, Abigail, and Shawna.

Lauren Wong

Lauren Wong (Northeast Region)

Regional Director of Development

Lauren Wong is Wheaton's regional director of development for the northeast region including Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, New York, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Washington DC, Delaware, West Virginia and Virginia. Lauren earned her B.A. in Communication from Wheaton College in 2008. She served for three years in ministry with Young Life, building relationships and sharing Christ with high school students and their families. Most recently, Lauren worked as an Admissions Counselor at Wheaton College where she shared her passion for Wheaton with many prospective students. Lauren shares "God is doing amazing things through Wheaton College and I am thrilled to engage with wise, Godly people who have been shaped by this place and have a vision for growing the Kingdom." Lauren and her husband, Wei Chi, live in Naperville.

Erin Shade

Erin Shade

Director of Annual Giving and Development Programs

Erin Ripley Shade earned her B.A. from Wheaton in 1992, then served in Wheaton's Advancement and Alumni Relations division from 1993 to 2002. After taking a hiatus to attend to three young sons, Erin joined the development staff in 2010 to help fellow Wheaton alumni and friends connect to areas of funding interest at the College. Erin and her husband, Terry M.A. '94, reside in West Chicago with their boys, and her favorite Wheaton College class was History of Philosophy with Dr. Arthur Holmes.
